Newborn sessions, mall booths, Halloween preparations, Date Nights…In short: October!

Whew! Is October over yet?! Just kidding! From Kentucky Oaks Mall and Date Nights to newborns and Halloween preparation, it has been quite the happening month for Abanathy Photography, LLC!

First, I just have to mention my wonderful newborn session this afternoon with little Manning! She was only a little fussy, as all babies are, but that didn’t stop me from snapping a bunch of cute ones, which I can’t wait to share with you at a later date.

One thing I find, when working with newborns, is: No matter how much planning you put into a session, most of it is going to unfold in a completely different direction. But that is okay! Aside from the setup and equipment to take the photos, one also must have the patience it takes to work with the unpredictable nature of newborns. Almost to Jedi proportions. That definitely works out in my favor, as I have (sometimes to a fault) quite a bit of patience.

In fact, it works in my favor! When I am shooting just about any type of session, I often find the client runs out of energy before I do. I could often keep going and, more times than not, have to force myself to put the camera down. With newborns, it works great, as I simply resign myself to working on the baby’s time. If they have several hours in them, then we have a date! It’s almost like a competition to see who gives up first. And when the baby finally does and takes a rest…I get even more great shots!

In short, I had a blast today and I can’t wait for the next one!

I also want to give a shout out to the winner of our free Mom-to-Be session, Jodi. Soon she will be a new mom and I look forward to her maternity shoot in the coming months!

Let’s see, October has been busy and continues to get busier, but I am also sure to take a mental slowdown from time to time and enjoy the finer things including the cool autumn weather. Earlier, as I finished what could very well be my last mow of the season, I was sure to take it in. The crisp air, the corn harvest across the street, the fall leaves on the ground, and my long-sleeves keeping the winter’s tease from my arms.

It also puts me in the Halloween spirit, which reminds me: Be sure to check the blog next week for a special Halloween-spirited blog. It is one of two blogs I am planning, which discusses some unusual photography habits. The second will likely be around the first of the year. I don’t think you will be disappointed!

Lastly, before I crash for the weekend, I just want to announce a couple of upcoming events from Abanathy Photography, LLC.
